What elegant spider
webbed the sky
with silky threads,
tangled the stars and
hid the sun, then
bleached the blue
to strands of gauzy white?
Her legs longer
than daylight
reached beyond open
fields of space as
she drew a web of stellar chaos.
She deftly climbed
over the cold bodies
of each captured star and
cocooned them all
in silvery floss.
The elegant spider
dining in space
ate the stars and
threaded the night sky
with darkness.
